Country Music Miniature Donkeys

Country Music Miniature Donkeys raises miniature Mediterranean donkeys on a ranch in the Texas Hill Country in Spicewood, about 30 miles west of Austin. Rhetta McAlister and her family are fourth-generation ranchers who have spent over 30 years refining their miniature donkey program.

The herd is built around a single champion bloodline, anchored by National Champion Halter Jack Country Music's George Jones and his sons Garth Brooks and Sonny James. Together, these herdsires have produced more than 25 national and world champion halter and performance donkeys across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and New Zealand. The brood jennets — a band of around 25 carefully selected individuals ranging from 28 to 33 inches — were chosen for small stature, sound conformation, and strong pedigrees.

Foal development is a central focus of the program. Each foal is worked with five days a week from birth through weaning, covering halter training, leadline obstacle work, and general handling, so that by weaning time at four to five months the young minis are show-ready or well-prepared as companions.
