Black Mountain Pack Llamas
Black Mountain Pack Llamas breeds and trains pack llamas on a family farm in Ramona, California, in the inland foothills of San Diego County. Doug and Michelle Bearmar have been raising llamas there since 2010, with a program rooted in backcountry utility — supporting hikers, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts who need capable animals on the trail.
The program got its start in an unexpected way: after rescuing abandoned llamas from the Cleveland National Forest, the Bearmars immersed themselves in the craft, attending a multi-day training event in Silverton, Colorado hosted by the country's leading llama organizations before building out their herd. That hands-on foundation shapes how llamas for sale in Southern California are selected and conditioned at Black Mountain today.
Douglas Bearmar serves as a board member of the Llama Association of Southern California, and the farm holds memberships with several national organizations including the International Llama Registry, the Alpaca Llama Show Association, and the North American Ccara Association. The Bearmars' annual Thanksgiving llama hike at the Ramona Grasslands County Preserve reflects how deeply the operation is woven into its local community.
