Rocky Creek Ranch

Rocky Creek Ranch is a shetland sheep breeder in Shirley, AR, in Van Buren County near Little Rock. Michelle Murphy has raised shetland sheep here for more than a decade, following national breed association standards and conducting regular health screening. The flock grazes on gently rolling pasture and has access to sheltered barns, with lambs handled from the first weeks to support calm behavior.

The farm uses rotational grazing and composted manure to enrich soil and maintain a balanced landscape. Local fiber artists often comment on the wool’s fine crimp and consistency, noting its suitability for delicate hand knitting. Individual breeding stock are evaluated at regional sheep shows, with several placings in fleece competitions. Lambs are introduced to children and other farm animals early on, promoting a gentle temperament and adaptability.
